How old does my child have to be to start Taekwondo classes?
In general, your child must be at least 5 years old. Grand Master Kim can assess your child and see if he/she is ready to start lessons.
How long will it take for my child or me to become a black belt?
Becoming a blackbelt is the reward for a successful journey. In general, a very focused and determined student with good physical skills and a well-trained mind can become a black belt in two years. If a students takes summer breaks the time period will be extended accordingly. Also, at times unforseen events occur that delay a student's progress towards black belt. In such circumstances, Grand Master Kim offers private lessons to help the student catch up and eventually achieve his/her ultimate goal.
Are parents allowed to stay and watch my children practice?
Parents are more than welcome to stay and observe. In fact, this is highly recommended for younger children.
Can I participate in class with my children?
Parents who are healthy enough to participate in Taekwondo training are highly encouraged to sign up for classes. You may then train together with your child/children and set a wonderful example for them to follow. Parents often feel a sense of self-satisfaction at advancing through the different colored belts, often end up making new friends with other parents, and even enjoy occasional weekend Taekwondo tournament events. Additionally, parents enjoy the benefits of weight loss, aerobic conditioning, and psychological relaxation.
Are there family tuition discounts?
Yes, tuition discounts are given for multiple students from the same family. Please contact us to discuss.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes, private lessons are offered. Students make special arrangements with Grand Master Kim at a time that is mutually convenient.
Is sparring mandatory?
Sparring is not mandatory. Some students enjoy poomse (forms) and board breaking and choose not to spar, while other students welcome the challenges and invaluable lessons learned from sparring. Special sparring classes are held for those wishing to develop sparring techniques utilized in Olympic style tournaments. Safety is always emphasized and sparring safety equipment is mandatory.

Grand Master Kim places great emphasis on safety. Instructors closely monitor students throughout training to ensure proper stretching and correct exercise techniques. Students are advanced to more challenging techniques only after they have proven mastery of prerequisite techniques. Sparring is optional and is only offered to students who have proven they are ready. Safety gear is mandatory.
